Weiden, Macerata and Frameries welcomed again in Issy for the annual race, "La Corrida de Noël", distinguished by its Santa Claus Runners.

As every year, official delegations from Weiden (Germany) and Macerata (Italy), followed by runners from Frameries European Runners (Belgium), came to Issy to share the annual festive and sporting event that sees the participation of thoudands of runners dressed with Santa Claus tipical dressing.

A month after the commemorations of the terrorist attacks on Paris on Friday, November 13th 2015, the Mayor of Weiden, Kurt Seggewiβ and the Deputy-Mayor of Macerata, Mario Iesari, placed a wreath near the Bataclan with the Deputy-Mayor of Issy in charge of International Relations, Alain Lévy. In the little public garden "Square du Bataclan", a memorial stele has been erected with the name of the victims. Emotion is still in the air, as flowers and candles show. This was a vivid testimony of friendship and solidarity toward the victims, theirs families and friends, and also to our country.

In 2017, Issy will celebrate Europe

In May next year, Issy and the Twining Committee (Comité de Jumelages) will organize a huge celebration for Europe Day 2016. Two of the twin Cities, Weiden and Macerata, have already showed their enthusiasm to participate to this event, all along with Frameries and Hounslow! The visit of Weiden and Macerata in December was an opportunity to start the preparation for this great event. To know more, just wait until May…

La Corrida de Noël, our Santa Claus Race

Of course, the main aim of this visit was the participation to the Corrida de Noël. So, on the starting blocks we had :

  • a Belgian representative at 10:00 am (6 km race)
  • 3 German representatives and the Italian Deputy-Mayor at 10:40 (10 km Santa race)
  • 5 Belgian racers at 12:30 (10 km international label race)

Due to the context, police tighten security of this important event and all runners were checked. Everybody agreed there was a wonderful atmosphere, fanfares and bands were playing enjoyable music too. Some of our guests broke their own record. According to our neighbors from Frameries, they are always very excited to come to our festive race. Let’s meet again for the 2017 Santa Claus Race, then!
