More and more sport in Issy

In Issy, sport is of particular importance. With 40% more members in five years, Issy has increased considerably its choice of sports activities. From Capoera, table football or boules to women’s handball, not to mention the wheelchair sports sector, there are almost 39 clubs open 363 days a year from 8.00 am to 11.00 pm.
Since June 2005, Issy-les-Moulineaux has had a new Sports Stadium comprising three 13-metre-high halls, i.e. 3,000 m² of floor space for practising sports, making it one of the largest sports structures in Europe. It has already played host to several major international competitions.

It will be completed in 2006/2007 with the creation of a 4th synthetic turf football pitch and the Sports Hall which will be set up in the Municipal Sports Park.

Every year, Issy-les-Moulineaux is the prologue for the Paris-Nice cycling race, the Tour de France inevitably goes through the town and it is also the venue for the famous Christmas Corrida, which, for the past twenty years, has seen more than 10,000 athletes take to its streets right in the middle of December.

Issy in the pages of boxing history

Issy-les-Moulineaux has written a page in the history of boxing thanks to the Avia Club, founded by the Voisin brothers, pilots during the Second World War. At the time, the Avia Club was a multisport centre.
After the war, in 1945, the Avia Boxing Club was created by Pierre DUPAIN, Eugène ROSSI and Marcel BAZIN.
The boxers of this time were HAIRABEDIAN, BONNARDEL and TOUZARD.
In the 1950s, the Avia Boxing Club was the best amateur club in France.
Since then, the Avia Club has become a legend in the world of boxing where some of the greatest have come to fight: Jean-Paul BELMONDO, Patrick PRESJENT, Maurice AUZEL, Jean-Pierre SCMIDT, Sylvain WATBLED, the TIOZZO brothers and Bruno WARTELLE.
The Avia Boxing Club has a very long and impressive prize list: 13 European Champion titles and 1 World Champion title.
